February/March Message
Michael HealeyIt’s hard to believe that we are starting the second half of the 2018-19 school year! This is a great time of year to highlight the importance of school attendance. Did you know that a student who misses 14 days of school per year, starting in Kindergarten, will miss the equivalent of one full year of school by the time he or she reaches 12th grade? Fourteen days of school seems like a lot of school to miss, but you might be surprised to learn that 20% of Argyle CSD students in grades K-12 missed at least 14 days of school during the 2017-18 school year. Please contact us if your child is experiencing difficulties with school attendance, our faculty and staff are here to support you and your family.

In addition to providing important updates and information through our school website, social
media accounts, and school messenger services, the district is preparing to offer parents and guardians the opportunity to receive important information from the school via text messages. As we prepare to launch the new text messaging notification service, we are also updating parent and guardian cell phone and email addresses. Please watch for information being mailed home and posted on our school website on how to ensure your contact information is accurate and up-to-date and how to receive text message updates from Argyle CSD.

As part of our recent capital project, the district replaced the stage area in the “old” gym with a great, new fitness space. I’m pleased to report that our fitness equipment has been ordered and is scheduled to be installed over February Break. Once installed, our students will have access to a complete fitness center, including cardiovascular machines, free weights, and strength-training equipment. While not yet ready for use as a community fitness center, the district is currently evaluating options that will allow us to offer community members the opportunity to use the district’s fitness center.

We are also scheduled to replace our current wooden bleachers in the main gym with new injection molded high-density polyethylene plastic bleachers, complete with our own Scotty logo on the exposed ends of each row. The new bleachers will be school colors, ADA compliant, comfortable, and safe! As of today, installation is scheduled to occur over the 2019 April Spring Break.

February and March finds us right in the middle of the school budget planning process. In late January, we received the Governor's proposed 2019– 2020 State Budget and now we await the final state budget in April. A portion of each BOE meeting between now and May will be devoted to the 2019-2020 budget development process.

In closing, I want to thank you for your continued support of the Argyle Central School District.
