Grades 3-8 NYS Testing Update

Grades 3-8 NYS Testing Update
Posted on 03/27/2018

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We are approaching the New York State English Language Arts and Mathematics assessment periods for students in grades 3-8.  As you know, our students and their teachers have been working very hard and are well prepared for these assessments.

We want to communicate some positive changes taking place with the New York State assessments program. Beginning this year, all testing in grades 3-8 will be a two-day event rather than a three-day event. Continuing from last year, all NYS testing in grades 3-8 is untimed, allowing students to do their best work without the pressure of time.

The tests will be administered in the mornings on the days listed below:

  • April 11-13, 2018 – Grades 3-8 ELA Test
  • May 1-3, 2018 – Grades 3-8 Math Test
  • May 23, 2018 – Grades 4 & 8 Science Performance Test
  • June 4, 2018 – Grades 4 & 8 Science Written Test

As a reminder, individual student scores are not included on the student’s official transcript or in the student’s permanent record, and will be provided to the student and parents simply for diagnostic and informational purposes.

This year’s test questions were written and developed with greater teacher involvement, and have no official evaluation consequences for student or teachers.

This attached flyer contains additional information about this year’s tests. If you have any questions about testing, please contact your child’s principal or reach out to me directly.  Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Michael Healey

Superintendent of Schools
