When elementary students at Argyle Central School returned from summer break, they found their hallway transformed by a colorful new mural, thanks to the creative efforts of Girl Scout Troop 3874.

Five junior scouts from the troop worked from March to August 2024, planning, sketching, tracing, and painting the mural depicting the golden rule: "Treat others how you want to be treated." The project earned the troop the Bronze Award, the highest award at the junior scout level.

The girls collaborated with Argyle Art Teacher Ms. Bartow and recent Argyle grads Abby Hopkins and Emma Harwood, who helped them bring their vision to life.

The best part of creating the mural for Aurora was doing it with her friends. "But working in big groups can be hard, and you have to compromise, she said.

"The best part for me was customizing the mural with our ideas and handprints," said Libby.

Troop leaders Taryn Ashe and Crystal Slattery were proud of the girls' progress from the first meeting to the final result.

"The girls put their best effort into each meeting, working as a team to get as much done each time we met. It was truly an honor to be their mentor throughout this process," said Ashe.

"I'm so proud of these students and their accomplishment. The mural will be enjoyed by students and staff for many years to come,” said elementary principal Dawn Wood.

Both Quinn and Kloee hope people learn something when they see the mural. "I hope people learn about being a good person," said Quinn.

"I hope they learn to be good people, good citizens and not to bully," said Kloee.
