How to Spot College Scholarship Scams

 

  • Jenkins Memorial Scholarship for Teacher Education
    Teaching Career Scholarship – for a senior entering the teaching profession and plans to attend the State University of New York for a baccalaureate degree in education or attend a two-year community college before transferring to a baccalaureate degree program in education at the State University of New York.
    Deadline – December 15

  • TCT Federal Credit Union in partnership with the New York Credit Union
    You must be a member of a participating New York Credit Union. Applicants will be judged based on academic achievements, extracurricular and community activities.
    Deadline - January 17

  • The Joan Grishkot Memorial Foundation Scholarship
    Healthcare Career Scholarship –For a senior who will pursue the study of nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy or other related medical support fields.
    Deadline – March 1
     

    The Walter Grishkot Scholarship
    For a senior entering the Study of Aviation, aeronautics or related field and is in good academic standing.
    Deadline – March 1
     

    Horatio Alger Association Scholarships
    The Horatio Alger Association administers over 70 scholarship programs, offering opportunities for students in various stages of their academic careers to achieve their educational goals and realize their potential.

    The Cristin Ann Bambino Memorial Scholarship
    Awarded to a college bound special education student from a NYSIR-member school district to reward him or her for working through special challenges to complete high school and obtain acceptance to a college or university.
    Deadline – March 7

    Joseph Goncalves Student Humanitarian Scholarship
    For a senior who plans to attend college in New York State.  Students should be able to demonstrate a record of involvement and work for a cause or organization that actively promotes social justice, equal opportunity, relief of human suffering or similar aspirations generally understood to be with the meaning of humanitarian activity. 
    Deadline – March 7 

     

    Paul Jensen Memorial Scholarship
    Awarded to a student who has demonstrated an inspired imagination and creative aesthetic in his or her school career, and who is seeking an opportunity to attend college.
    Deadline – March 7
     

    Junior League of Albany Rockwell Scholarship
    For a female high school senior who will be applying for enrollment in an accredited college, university or secondary education or vocation program for the 2024-2025 year, is currently involved in volunteer organizations or activities to improve the community, and is able to demonstrate citizenship and initiative.     Jean M. Coon Humanitarian Award – Zonta Club
    Scholarship is based on required community service and voluntary community service

    Young Women in Leadership Award - Zonta Club
    To a young woman who will be recognized for a commitment to the volunteer sector, volunteer leadership achievements and dedication to empowering women worldwide through service and advocacy. 
    Deadline – March 15
     

    Saratoga Ancient Order of Hibernians Commodore John Barry Division 1 Scholarship
    This Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will be a full time student in college, trade school or other accredited program.
    Deadline – March 17

    Hudson Mohawk Area Health Education Center Healthcare Career Scholarship
    For a senior entering an approved healthcare related program at a local community college, university and/or a certification program.
    Deadline – March 21


    NYSUT Retiree Council 10 Scholarship
    For a graduating senior pursuing a degree in education at either a two-year college transfer program or a four-year college.
    Deadline – March 25

  • Sandy Hill Foundation
    Scholarship grants for college education on an annual basis to assist qualifying young women and men graduating from designated local area schools.  Scholarships will be awarded on academic performance and achievements, standard educational tests, financial need and letters of recommendation received relating to the character, motivation and potential of the individual.
    Deadline – April 1 

    Empire State Potato Growers Inc.
    For a student who is pursuing college studies benefiting the agricultural industry.

    Zonta Club of Glens Falls Scholarship
    For a senior who demonstrates a passion or talent not always recognized by traditional scholarship programs.
    Deadline – April 1


    STEM Women in Technology Award - Zonta Club
    To a young woman to pursue a higher education degree in the STEM field, while also encouraging leadership achievements in these fields and a dedication to the advancement of the status of women.
    Deadline – April 1


    Adirondack Paralegal Association
    To a graduating senior who is seeking financial assistance for higher education.  Applicants are not required to be entering the legal field and are open to everyone.
    Deadline – April 1

    American Society of Civil Engineers
    Prospective Civil Engineer Scholarship – for a senior seeking to continue their education with the goal of becoming a practicing civil engineer.

    Deadline – April 18 

     

    Schuylerville Community Theater Scholarship
    For a student pursuing a degree in Music, Drama, Dance or Theater Arts.
    Deadline – April 20
     

    Adirondack Runners Scholarship
    Based on selection criteria that includes: academic achievement, school and community service, running achievements and a written essay that describes the significance that running has in the student’s life.
    Deadline – April 25

  • Tri-County Branch NY Division Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association, Inc. Award
    A $500 scholarship to a senior who plans on majoring in an agricultural, environmental, forestry, horticultural or oceanographic related field.
    Deadline – May 1

     

    Argyle Teachers’ Association Scholarship Award – Academic Scholarship Award
    For a graduating senior who plans to continue his/her education beyond high school.

    Argyle Community Scholarship
    For a graduating senior who will benefit from further education.
    Deadline - May 5
     

    Epilepsy Foundation Scholarships
    Three scholarships awarded to a high school senior who is currently being treated for epilepsy and plans to further their education.
    Deadline – May 9

    Carl H. Lufkin Memorial Scholarship
    For a senior who is either college bound or work force bound; the scholarship is based on three criteria – work experience, community service, and extracurricular activities.
    Deadline – May 17

     

    The C. David Barker Memorial Scholarship
    To a graduating senior to acknowledge the achievements of a senior for their volunteer services in schools and communities.   The applicant does NOT need to be part of an Emergency Service, they just have to have a heart for serving others through some kind of volunteer program.

  • Washington County Fair Scholarship
    For a Senior who has been or is currently active in the Washington County Fair.
