Student Grade Placement - Secondary

A student will be considered a member of whatever graduating class in which he/she has met the academic requirements. Under no circumstances will any student be allowed to attend class meetings or be a member of any class in which he/she has not met the academic unit requirements. The following standards have been established for each grade level:

Grade 7 and 8: English 2 pts., Social Studies 2 pts., Math 2 pts., Science 2 pts., Spanish 2 pts., Technology 1 pt., Music 1 pt., Art 1 pt., Health 1 pt., Physical Education 1 pt., Home & Careers 1 pt.

In order to be promoted to grade 8, a student would have to accumulate 10 points. In order to be promoted to grade 9, a student would have to accumulate 10 points. To accumulate points you must pass the subject.

Grade 10:

For a student to be promoted into 10th grade, a student must have passed English 9 or Social Studies 9 and 3 additional units of credit.

Grade 11:

For a student to be promoted to the 11th grade, the student must have passed English 10 or Social Studies 10 and a total of 8 additional units of credit.

Grade 12:

For a student to be promoted to the 12th grade, the student must have passed English 11 or Social Studies 11 and have accumulated a total of 14 additional units of credit and be eligible to graduate in June.

If a student is behind in English and/or Social Studies or behind with total accumulated credits, that student should schedule to meet with the High School Principal to determine if Graduation requirements can be met. The student may have an opportunity for credit recovery as determined by the Administration, and in accordance with New York State Department of Education guidelines.
